Tata to Construct the Largest iPhone Manufacturing Facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, India.
Tata is all set to construct India's largest iPhone assembly plant in Tamil Nadu in an effort to increase the production and manufacturing of Apple products in South Asia. The news agency Bloomberg reported that this plant is planned to be built in Hosur. According to sources, the iPhone factory is anticipated to have more than 20 assembly lines and more than 50,000 jobs within two years. The website should be up and running in 12 to 18 months.
Given that Apple already has an iPhone assembly plant in Karnataka that is integrated with Wistron, this plant will strengthen the partnership with Tata to localize the supply chain. The Karnataka plant's iPhone production rates may be greatly impacted once the new Tamil Nadu plant is up and running.
With the plant in Tamil Nadu expected to be operational by the end of 2024, local manufacturing could drive down the price of Apple smartphones, increasing rivalry between the two companies.
Already, Tata Electronics has a sizable manufacturing plant in Hossur that employs more than 5,000 people and is primarily in charge of making iPhone cases. Tata Electronics has started hiring for its Tamil Nadu plant in anticipation of an increase in iPhone production in India.
Tata purchased the Apple production facility in Karnataka from Wistron in October with the goal of expanding iPhone production throughout India and the South Asian region. Tata paid 123 million US dollars to acquire the assembly plant, which is based in Bangalore.
The production facility employs over 10,000 people, and its aim is to ship 1.4 billion iPhones, which is a significant amount of money. Tata Electronics stands out from other companies that leave the Apple product market because of lower margins because it has continuously demonstrated a strong interest in and investment in iPhone production.
